The Virtual 2020
This year, entrants will be completing the challenge ‘virtually’ – by cycling the 144 miles on local roads, or on an exercise bike at home (or in a gym if restrictions at the time allow). Riders can complete the challenge at any time between Saturday 4th – Friday 31st July 2020, in as many rides as they wish. Entry to the event is free and entrants are also asked to set a fundraising target of at least £50, with all money raised going to support Ryedale Special Families. Every entrant will receive a certificate for completing the challenge – and those raising more than £144 will receive a special commemorative t shirt.
Ryedale Special Families
Every penny raised by the challenge will go to support a fantastic independent Malton based charity, Ryedale Special Families. The charity helps more than 400 families in Ryedale, helping families and young people with all kinds of disabilities. It offers a vital support network, providing a range of services including information, advocacy, flexible one-to-one care, social groups and family activities. The charity depends heavily on fundraising, and the cancellation of events like the yearly Yorkshire Wolds Cycle challenge is putting the charity under serious financial pressure. They need your help! Ryedale Special Families is a registered charity no. 1170988. Find our more at here.
We want to ensure that everyone taking part in the virtual challenge stays safe.
While completing the challenge, we ask that all cyclists ride sensibly and abide by the Government restrictions in place at that time.
- Do not cycle in groups
- Do not cycle (exercise) away from home more than the Government's guidelines in place at that time allow - check British Cycling and Cycling UK's websites for clarification (links below)
- Do not break the rules of the Highway Code, this is a non-competitive event
- Do not forget to stay alert and maintain social distancing when you're out cycling Please see britishcycling.org.uk and cyclinguk.org for current cycling guidelines. The organisers and Ryedale Special Families accept no responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of participants, who take part at their own risk.
