I'm supporting children and young people with disabilities in North Yorkshire

Ryedale Special Families is an independent charity based in Malton. Founded in the 1990s by a small group of parents with disabled children, it’s grown significantly over the past 25 years, and today, provides care and support for more than 400 families throughout the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire.

Providing a wide range of services including information, advocacy, flexible one-to-one care, social groups and family activities, it offers a vital support network to help families and young people with all kinds of disabilities. The charity depends heavily on fundraising to finance the work it does, and the Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Challenge is an important part of this picture. The loss of income from the cancellation of this year's Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Challenge is a devastating blow to the charity and the families it supports and money raised from this Virtual 2020 event will make a huge difference to them.

An Epic Adventure with Trixie (the Trek)

Thursday 23rd Jul
Virtual 2020 Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Challenge:

150 miles. 9965ft climbing.

On a perfect day I'm proud to say I met the challenge. Felt so strong the whole way round.  Here's a little flavour of an epic adventure. Hope you enjoy the summary, photos and videos of an amazing day out.

Dumfries to Langholm: Beautiful start to the day. Steady ride to Langholm. Stopped for a quick photo and video before heading over to meet Chris at Newcastleton. 🌞🚵‍♀️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Langholm to Newcastleton: Climbed over 1,000ft in around 9 miles and crossed into the Scottish Borders in this section. It was a tough gradual climb and cool on the tops but as usual well worth the climb for the views and descent! 💪😍

Newcastleton to Hawick: A lonely long section with lots of never-ending grinding uphills. Just had to get my head down and keep on keeping on....with a Costa double espresso as a reward! ☕💚

Hawick to Selkirk: This was a hilly slog but with some beautiful views. Took in some categorized climbs aka very steep! Happy to see the Sir Walter Scott statue and have a little rest! 🌄

Selkirk to St. Mary's Loch and Loch of the Lowes: Started with probably the roughest road section and it was of course uphill..ouch! But the views from the top were magnificent....absolutely gorgeous Lochs. So lucky to see them. 🏞

St. Mary's Loch to Dumcrieff: Probably my favourite part of the course...fabulous sweeping downhill section as seen on video 😍📷

Dumcrieff to Duncow: Technical, gravelly downhill started this section followed by a long section on a fairly busy undulating A-road. Tough going. 💪

Duncow to Dunscore: Climb over Dalswinton and some tricky gravel to negotiate. I was well aware of keeping my eyes open and taking a good line to avoid any late on falls! Even managed a silver medal during this section on strava 🙂💪

Dunscore to home: Felt stronger than ever here. So excited to whizz home (via a couple more cheeky climbs) to a warm shower...and bed!  🚵‍♀️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿💚💪🙂

Biggest thanks and love to Chris F Renton my drive support but much more than that. Kept me strong and focussed the whole way 💚💚💚
