I'm supporting children and young people with disabilities in North Yorkshire

Ryedale Special Families is an independent charity based in Malton. Founded in the 1990s by a small group of parents with disabled children, it’s grown significantly over the past 25 years, and today, provides care and support for more than 400 families throughout the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire.

Providing a wide range of services including information, advocacy, flexible one-to-one care, social groups and family activities, it offers a vital support network to help families and young people with all kinds of disabilities. The charity depends heavily on fundraising to finance the work it does, and the Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Challenge is an important part of this picture. The loss of income from the cancellation of this year's Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Challenge is a devastating blow to the charity and the families it supports and money raised from this Virtual 2020 event will make a huge difference to them.

Two Gross

Sunday 26th Jul
Well, that's me. 288 miles since July 4th, twice the Challenge distance completed, and 5 days to spare. Don't anyone suggest trying to fit another lap in before August starts.
I'm usually at the finish of our event taking photos of the riders coming home, and I'm not a cyclist, so this has been a real challenge for me, and I couldn't have done it without the moral support of my fabulous sponsors. The thought of your combined generosity has kept me going, so a huge THANK YOU to all of you.
I'm going for a lie down xxxx

Second Lap of Challenge, without Orinoco Wombleton

Friday 24th Jul
To be perfectly honest, the first 144 miles would have been a lot easier without my friend Orinoco as streamlining for the bike. The constant moaning about the midges and the wind in his face was more than I could take, so he has stayed at home for the second lap. I don't think he made any difference to the aerodynamics, but at least mt ears have had a rest.

First Ever 50 mile Ride

Friday 24th Jul
Did I say this morning that I was setting off to add another 30+ miles? I just couldn't stop, the nearer I got to 50 the more I had to carry on. Well, that just leaves 23 miles to do

71 Miles into the Second Lap

Friday 24th Jul
Well the title speaks for itself. 73 miles left to do in a week now, so for me, it's getting close. If I can dodge the rain and wind of summer, (and the flying insects, and the pollen!), I should be OK.
My sponsorship has been amazing, and I must say a HUGE Thank You to everyone who has been so generous in these difficult times. You've really kept me motivated to get the mileage done.
Setting off to get another 30+ in the bag if I'm lucky.

Finished the first 144, setting off on lap 2.

Friday 17th Jul
Well, I made it. I'm chuffed to bits. I'm setting off to do another 144.  I'm usually at the finish taking photos of all our lovely riders coming home, and I've never cycled very far in one go before, so  yesterdays 44 miles, and the total 144 for me is a massive leap forward. And, I'm actually enjoying it. One question though, Why do saddles have to be so damn hard?

Thank you to my Sponsors
