I'm supporting families who have children and young people with disabilities in North Yorkshire

Ryedale Special Families is an independent charity based in Malton. Founded in the 1990s by a small group of parents with disabled children, it’s grown significantly over the past 25 years, and today, provides care and support for more than 400 families throughout the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire.

Providing a wide range of services including information, advocacy, flexible one-to-one care, social groups and family activities, it offers a vital support network to help families and young people with all kinds of disabilities.

The charity depends heavily on fundraising to finance the work it does, and the Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Challenge is an important part of this picture, having raised over £200,000 in the past 9 years.

The loss of income from the cancellation of this year's event is a devastating blow to the charity and the families it supports, so a few of us got together and decided to launch a 'virtual' version of it.

Money raised from this Virtual 2020 event will make a huge difference to the charity, and so I decided to get involved.

As you'll see from my activity tracking I've been cycling most days, in preparation for the challenge which starts on Saturday 4th July, gradually increasing my mileage. The furthest distance I've cycled prior to the last 8 weeks or so is about 12 miles and totally coincidentally the last time I cycled 144 miles was the year we launched the Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Challenge in 2011!

With just a few days to go before the event start date I've now set my own personal challenge.

Across the weekend of 18th/19th July I'll be cycling the full length of the Liverpool to Leeds Canal, a distance of 152 miles (with the extra bit from Leeds to York!), so over 50 miles each day for 3 days!

I'll be doing this with a group of fellow cyclists who I'm sure will give me lots of support (and hopefully not too much beer in the evening!)

Your support is very much appreciated.
