I'm supporting children and young people with disabilities in North Yorkshire
Ryedale Special Families is an independent charity based in Malton. Founded in the 1990s by a small group of parents with disabled children, it’s grown significantly over the past 25 years, and today, provides care and support for more than 400 families throughout the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire.
Providing a wide range of services including information, advocacy, flexible one-to-one care, social groups and family activities, it offers a vital support network to help families and young people with all kinds of disabilities. The charity depends heavily on fundraising to finance the work it does, and the Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Challenge is an important part of this picture. The loss of income from the cancellation of this year's Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Challenge is a devastating blow to the charity and the families it supports and money raised from this Virtual 2020 event will make a huge difference to them.
Managed to complete the challenge after all!!Sunday 2nd Aug
I have amazed myself, actually managing to ride 185 miles on my trusty Dahon folding bike with its small wheels, which I got down from the hook on the garage wall, only a week or so before starting the challenge.
I have to thank Ann Douglas for her encouragement and confidence in asking me to join her in the challenge. She has been a superstar - and has introduced me to a whole new concept - Cycle routes and safer ways to get from A to B .
I have also had some amazing sponsors - and I am so grateful for their generosity.
Now to try and keep up the cycling habit. Share
Just about MeThursday 9th Jul Having semi retired from a lifetime involved with education technology and for the last 15 years of my working life, being heavily involved with organisations providing support to those with additional needs.
The chance to try to restore my own fitness levels and hopefully help fund raise for this great organisation, even if I only raise a very small amount, seemed to me to be a perfect opportunity to get back onto my bike. Share
Thank you to my Sponsors
